For those of you that guessed, you were right. My favorite beauty goodie of 2008 is definitely the Clarisonic.

I have only been using this high tech gadget for about two months now - if even that. It has made such a difference in the way that my skin looks and feels, though, that is definitely my favorite.

I use the Clarisonic twice a day. In the shower in the morning: I apply a pea sized dot of Philosophy’s Purity Cleanser in the center of the brush and start the brush up. I use it for one minute on my face and then another minute on my neck and chest. At night, after I remove my eye makeup, I use another dot of cleanser, usually Purity, but if I feel I am needing extra moisture, I might use a more creamy cleanser. I use the brush over my face for just a minute again, but skip the neck and chest as it is too messy to do that out of the shower.

Now, it could just be me, but I swear that my skin serums and moisturizers work much better too. My skin is obviously cleaner than by just washing, and I think this lets my products get right onto the skin - not the particles of dirt and oils that might be left behind without such a thorough cleansing.

Clarisonic is a more expensive product and the brush heads do need changing every 3 - 4 months at $25 a pop. But trust me. If you make the investment for the original $195, you will not be disappointed.

Copper Diamond helped get me gorgeous on Thanksgiving, and quickly helped me look awake at 6 AM on Black Friday. This Shimmer Brick is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l, without being overdone. I mean, if you want to go all out glam and be all full of golden copper shimmer, then apply with a heavier hand. I am loving it though, just by sweeping it across my cheeks and eyelids for a quick look. Along with mascara, liner, and gloss (well, some concealer and foundation too), I am beautified in no time.

“Five gorgeous shades — candlelight, gold, copper, beige and sand — work together to give skin a warm golden copper glow.”

Bobbi used this very Shimmer Brick in her Holiday look this year, which can be found here - along with the rest of the cosmetics used.

Copper Diamond Shimmer Brick is a limited edition, so check it out soon at your Bobbi Brown counter or online. For $40, you will not be sorry.

Celebrity Makeup Artist and my friend Elke Von Freudenberg launched her very own line of eyebrow products earlier this year. The Model Brow is perfect for us everyday gals that want our brows to look as if they were just shaped by Elke.

image

Elke is a brow guru. She works in both NYC and LA where she has brow studios, spends weekends at a salon in Park Slope (in Brooklyn) and heads off to celebrity clients on movie and TV sets and even to their homes when they need shaping. How this expert even had the time to get a brow line together is amazing. But she did. And The Model Brow is amazing.

My favorite product from Elke is her Brow Pencil. I use the color taupe, even though I have dark brows. You see my hair is dyed much lighter than my brows, and this pencil fills them in to look as natural as ever. The pencil is soft and it is easy to fill in areas with light feather-like stokes, as Elke suggests. You will notice that the cap contains a brow brush on it. This is divine. It is a stiff brush and grooms brows into place. I brush my brows, fill in with the pencil, and then brush a bit more.

image

If pencils are not your thing, Elke offers brow shadows, as well as a much sought after brow tamer (that I still need to get my hands on) and even brow highlighters for both day and night.

Check out Elke’s The Model Brow and let me know what you decide to try. She is also having a contest right now for a $100 gift certificate on her wares, so get on over and enter that too.

NOC-Out Cover-Up Compact from Redpoint Anti-Aging Cosmetics.

If you are anything like me, you use more than one concealer…

If you are anything like me, you use more than one concealer on a regular basis. Covering dark spots, under eye circles, while trying to lighten and brighten, needs more than one shade. That is what makes this compact perfect. It is from Redpoint Anti-Aging Cosmetics, and this is their NOC-Out Cover-Up Compact.

image
You will notice three different shades in the compact. And each shade has a different texture, as each one is designed to cover and treat different areas of the face. The three shades and what they are designed to do:

  1. The Yellow color is designed to cover up red areas. Think blemishes, redness around the nose or on the eyelids, rosacea. Just a bit of this creamy formula blended out with your fingertip, conceals the redness.
  2. The Salmon color is formulated to disquise age spots, sun spots, hyperpigmentation, freckles, etc. I like to use a concealer brush to apply this color and blend over and around any dark spot to make it appear as though it was never there.
  3. The Beige color is the color most typically found in concealers, as this one is made to cover up under-eye circles. Not only does this conceal the dark circles, it is thick enough to stay in place under the eye without caking.

As a bonus feature of this product, each cream is infused with ingredients to treat the specific problem it is covering.

NOC-Out Cover-Up Compact is available online at Redpoint Beauty for $38. But… I need to tell you that this compact, in it’s full size, is included in the first BeautyFix kit. If you have not read about BeautyFix yet, please read my earlier post and add up the savings yourself!

Have you seen the Lauren Hutton makeup line?

Based on her years of experience she says, she has brought her knowledge to a line of makeup designed for the older woman.

image” Cosmetic companies do not create makeup for women who have laughed as much as we’ve laughed, cried as much as we’ve cried or seen as much as we’ve seen. The more we experience life the more our face shows our life’s experiences but cosmetic companies do not address our evolution.

Most makeup available today is formulated for younger women. The textures are heavy, the colors saturated and they’re filled with shiny particles that act like airport runway lights in every line, wrinkle or pore, saying “Look over here!”

When I returned to modeling at 46, I began researching, experimenting, and even mixing and blending my own products to create lightweight, sheer, shimmer-free formulas that enhanced my features instead of masking them. Plus, all of my makeup products are cruelty free–they are never tested on animals.

I also believe the right products are only half the equation; application technique and the right tools are just as important. Lauren Hutton’s Good Stuff addresses all these elements and features a complete line of professional beauty products including lipstick, facial moisturizer, makeup brushes and more.”

Based on four skin tone groups: pink, yellow, olive, or brown, Lauren has selected selecting products a cinch.

I used this No Shine Tinted Moisturizer yesterday, and I am happy to report that I really liked it.

image

One of the best things is the hidden concealer right in the cap making this is completely portable product. I used the shade light. I love the creamy concealer that I simply applied with my fingers and the tinted moisturizer was right on. I did use this over my moisturizer, but I felt it added a bit more softness and dewy look to my skin, without making me look all made up.

I can’t wait to try more of Lauren’s line. Have you used any of Lauren’s makeup?

Lead in Lipstick?

As many of you have probably seen on all of the newspaper and television reports that a study has been published about the different amounts of lead in lipsticks. Who sponsored and published the study? The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.

image

I am a skeptic, as I always am. I do not know how much credit I put into the report as it is a bit biased. I would feel better and maybe worry more if the study were produced by the FDA or a medical community. My thoughts are that most, MOST, of the lipsticks that were tested, actually contained smaller amounts of lead that are allowed by the FDA in candy. Now, candy is often eaten by children, is it not? Nah, I am not very worried. I do not eat my lipstick ;) even though I know a bit of it must get ingested.

I have heard that this could be a PR nightmare, but as I have not heard one thing from any of the PR people I work with, they are not worried. I have worked with many of the brands that were mentioned in the report, and I am sure they are aware of it.

If you want to read the report and see the list of lipsticks in the report, they are available here. I believe that we all need to be aware and make our own choices.

I, for one, will not give up my lipstick habit, though I hardly ever wear a red lipstick, in which most of the lead is found.

Will this report change your mind? Will you stop wearing lipstick? Or are you not concerned? Let us know in the comments. I really wish to hear your thoughts.
