These pajamas are designed to help keep us cool and keep the moisture and wetness away from the skin, so we wake up dry - not drenched in sweat.

I am ordering a pair right now. These are made by Wildbleu Wicking Sleepwear and available at SereneComfort.com.

And they are pretty cute, don’t you think?

The One Hour Non-Surgical Face Lift.

I really do not think that any non-surgical procedure…

The most riveting topic of conversation at a party I held over my house this weekend revolved around the topic of plastic surgery, mostly about the One Hour Non-Surgical Face Lift. It seems my almost 70 year old mother-in-law said that $3500 and one hour will take away her sun damage and make her look 10 years younger. And she was doing it as a Christmas present to herself.

I really do not think that any non-surgical procedure will take ten years off anyone’s look in an hour. I am really wondering what this procedure is that she is talking about. I have heard of some of these procedures, but I want to narrow down which one she is choosing. If you have heard of such a Face Lift like this, let me know. My husband wants to investigate to make sure his Mother is safe. I want to investigate, because this is what I love to write about. ;)

Look out for an update once I figure out what she is planning on having. Of course, if she does plan on going through with the procedure, I will make sure I document some of it. well, as much as she lets me.

The Symptoms of Pre-Menopause.

The name for the period of time that leads into menopause is…

contributed by: Lauri
The name for the period of time that leads into menopause is called Peri-Menopause. I am always calling it pre-menopause, but I guess either name can work.

Most women experience these symptoms in their 40’s, but some earlier and some later. Be sure to discuss these with your doctor if you experience any of these.

  • Hot flashes, night sweats, coldness
  • Irregular periods that can be heavy, light, shorter or longer cycles
  • Difficulty sleeping either getting to sleep or staying asleep
  • Mood changes, anxiety, depression, irritability
  • Heart palpitations (if you experience any heart disturbances, always consult a physician)
  • Dry skin and/or hair loss
  • Loss of or decreased sexual desire
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Incontinence

Realize that these symptoms are bothersome, but most likely normal. Again, and as always, please report these to your doctor on your next visit.

Walking for a routine is certainly easier said than done. But it needs to be done. By simply walking 10,000 steps a day, you can cut your heart disease risk by 40%. YES! That is a pretty staggering number. And honestly, unless you are a coach potato, getting to 10,000 steps a day is not that difficult.

Here is the perfect Walking Workout Plan for beginners.

image

Initial Goal: Walking 10,000 steps per day.

“When you start your walking workout, don’t be intimidated if you can’t keep pace with the time suggestions here. These are your ultimate goals, but the health and weight-loss benefits of walking are measured in number of steps, not minutes. Even if it takes you 20 minutes to walk a mile instead of the 13-minute ideal, don’t give up. Your first goal is to reach the 10,000-steps marker, then worry about whittling down the time it takes to reach it. Do a little more each day, but don’t overdo it. Good luck! (If you’ve never exercised or haven’t done so in a while, check with your doctor first.)

How to customize your workout:
A pedometer registers step count, but maximum health benefits also require the right exertion level. Rule of thumb: If you can’t catch your breath enough to say hi to a friend, slow down. Able to belt out your favorite song, no problem? You’re taking it too easy. To up your workout ante, consider these variations:

  • Increase your pace, not your stride. Taking more steps per minute instead of longer ones not only helps you walk faster (a 12- to 13-minute mile is optimal), it also elevates your heart rate without increasing your risk of injury.
  • Pretend you’re on a tightrope. Professional walkers place one foot directly in front of the other, as opposed to taking hip-width strides. Follow suit, and you’ll increase your energy output and use more major muscle groups.
  • Work your arms. Bend your elbows at a 90-degree angle and pump them back and forth as you step. This propels you forward faster and burns more calories.
  • Head for the hills! Adding an angle is the surest way to increase the intensity of your walking workout. If you’re on a treadmill, use the elevation button.
  • Use weights or walking sticks — both give a more complete workout. The two dumbbells should weigh less than 10 percent of your body weight. Walking sticks (not to be confused with the kind Granddad may have sported) increase energy expended by 20 percent; order a pair at nordicwalker.com. “

Your next goal will to be walking those 10,000 steps per day in less time than when you started, as mentioned above. It may take time, but you can do it. Stay tuned for more walking tips and plans in the months to come.

Drinking Yourself Healthy - with Water.

Some nutritionists say that 80% of the country is walking around dehydrated. They say that we drink too much coffee, tea, and sodas containing caffeine, which prompts the body to lose water. Some nutritionists say that 80% of the country is walking around dehydrated. They say that we drink too much coffee, tea, and sodas containing caffeine, which prompts the body to lose water. More troubling is that fact that when we are dehydrated, we don’t know what to drink. If the answer were right and simple, it would be to drink water.

Water makes up a very large percentage of our body. The average 150 lb. adult body contains 40 to 50 quarts of water. Yes, that is almost almost 2/3rds of our body weight - otherwise known as “water weight”.

Take a look at the water that naturally occurs in our body:
Blood is 83% water
Muscles are 75% water
The brain is 74% water
Bone is 22% water

image

Water is necessary for the body to digest and absorb vitamins and nutrients. It also detoxifies the liver and kidneys, and carries away waste from the body.

If you’re dehydrated, your blood is literally thicker, and your body has to work much harder to cause it to circulate. As a result, the brain becomes less active, it’s hard to concentrate, your body feels fatigued, and you just become overall tired - mentally and physically.

To sum it all up, next time you are feeling tired and you think that you need a cup of coffee or something to “wake” you up, think again. Choose water instead. Get yourself hydrated, and wake up, more naturally.

Our Aging Minds: What’s Normal and What’s Not?

As our loved ones grow older, we must be attuned to the normal signs of old age, as well as what might be the early signs of psychological distress. Although the risk of disease and disability increases with age, poor health is not an inevitable consequence.

Almost 20 percent of the 55 and older population suffer from mental disorders that are not part of the “normal” aging process, including depression, anxiety disorders, and dementias such as Alzheimer’s disease.

rx_pad_see_the_doc
Early signs of psychological distress are often overlooked and go untreated. They overlap with the physical and cognitive changes associated with aging, as well as various life events, such as the loss of loved ones, that frequently occur as people age.

Many people mistakenly believe becoming “senile” or forgetting is a natural progression of aging. Although one in four older adults experiences these events (known collectively as cognitive decline), they are not a normal part of healthy aging.

Early detection can jump start treatment programs and significantly improve an elderly person’s quality of life. If you see yourself, your spouse, or loved one (parents) seeming to forget things more than normal, get them to a doctor. The sooner you get it figured out, the better it will be. And if there is a problem, the easier it will be to get it treated. as with many of life’s ailments, early detection is key.

Give your lips a world of pinks and show your support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

This beautiful set contains three of Elizabeth Hurley’s favorite shades of High Gloss. I am addicted to each and every one of them. They are all very wearable alone or over another gloss. I am especially loving them to lighten up some of the darker lippies we are seeing so much of this season.

The shades included:
- Pink (limited edition)
- Rose
- Pearl

The three glosses come packaged in a handy pink zippered travel case.

This can be bought online for $16 or available at select Estee Lauder counters.
